Experimenting with Freedom and Spontaneity

This collection of 20 small paintings marks a special milestone in my work: a departure into a looser, freer painting style than you may be used to from me. The idea for this experiment came from an inspiring conversation with a fellow artist who, like me, works in a realistic style. I have long admired artists who can create compelling images with loose, expressive brushstrokes. Together, we decided to challenge ourselves, selecting a series of subjects for which each of us provided our own interpretation.

 

The result is a collection of paintings with a spontaneous, almost sketch-like character – a tribute to the power of simplicity. While the style is different, my composition, use of color, and light effects remain unmistakably present. This first exhibition of the collection is part of '40 Years of Bonnard' at Galerie Bonnard, Nuenen.
